A place of birth, remembrance and darśan — and for many devotees, the beginning of a journey inward.
Pīṭhikāpura, now known as Pithapuram, is a town in Andhra Pradesh and is the sacred birthplace associated with Śrīpāda Śrīvallabha.
Please check the current transport connections and local road conditions before travelling.
The Śrīpāda Vallabha Mahāsaṁsthānam is the principal place of worship in Pīṭhikāpura. The Mahāsaṁsthānam publishes a daily programme of worship and services.
The original pādukas of Śrīpāda are included in the morning abhiṣekam programme published by the Mahāsaṁsthānam.
If you wish to participate in a particular service, it is wise to arrive with sufficient time and confirm the day's arrangements locally.
Timings are reproduced from the daily programme currently published by the Mahāsaṁsthānam. Please confirm locally before your visit.
The Śrīpāda Vallabha Seva Sangh, associated with the Mahāsaṁsthānam, publishes free lodging and boarding facilities for devotees coming from distant places, to the extent possible.
The published information describes three two-storey buildings with nearly 47 rooms, two small halls, a dormitory accommodating about 70 people, and a dining hall.
The Mahāsaṁsthānam also publishes information about the Rama Swamy Sadan accommodation building.
Accommodation is subject to availability. Please contact the Mahāsaṁsthānam / Seva Sangh before travelling rather than assuming that accommodation will be available.
For accommodation, temple-related enquiries and other practical arrangements, please contact the Mahāsaṁsthānam directly.
Pīṭhikāpura is best approached not as a list of tourist attractions, but as a kṣetra of remembrance.
Allow time for darśan at the Mahāsaṁsthānam and, visit Swayambhu Datta in the ancient Kukuteeswara Temple, Shakthi Peet of Puruhuthika Devi; and Kunti Madhava Swami Temple. A visit to the ancientlord Shiva Temple @ Sammalkota also is worthwhile.
Local devotees may be able to guide you regarding current access and local arrangements.
Pīṭhikāpura is not merely a place to reach.
Come for His darśan. Remain for His remembrance. Let the journey become inward.
Practical information such as temple timings, accommodation, transport and local arrangements can change.
